गणेश चतुर्थी हा दिवस भाद्रपद शुद्ध चतुर्थी या तिथीला साजरा करतात. श्रीगणेशाच्या मुर्तीची प्रतिष्ठापना या दिवशी केली जाते. त्यानंतर दररोज सकाळ-संध्याकाळ पूजा-अर्चा व आरती केली जाते. आरतीच्या शेवटी देवें म्हणतात व प्रसाद वाटतात. लोकमान्य बाळ गंगाधर टिळक यांच्या पुढाकारामुळे सुरू झालेला गणेशोत्सव गणेश चतुर्थीपासून पुढे दहा दिवस साजरा केला जातो. साधारणतः दहाव्या दिवशी अनंत चतुर्दशीला गणेश विसर्जन केले जाते.

Ganesh Chaturthi: Story about the Birth of Lord Ganesh

A long time ago Lord Shiva was fighting for Gods against the asura’s(demon’s). When he used to go for the war Parvati his wife used to live alone in the house. She had great powers but sometimes she used to get afraid. One day she wanted to take a bath. Lord Shiva was not in the house. She didn’t felt comfortable taking the bath. She thought that somebody should guard the house until she finishes her bath. She started thinking what to do. She started walking here and there in the house. After sometime a thought flashed in her head. She went to the bathroom. She used to apply the paste of turmeric on her body during the bath. She took some turmeric from the bowl and made a statue. She had the magical powers. With the help of the magical powers she made the statue alive. That was the birth of Lord Ganesh. She ordered him to guard the house until she finishes her bath. Ganesh Chaturthi: Birthday of Lord Ganesh

Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindus festival which marks the birth of Lord Ganesh. It is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi. Ganesh was the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Paravati. Lord Ganesh is also known as Lord of wisdom, prosperity and good fate. Ganesh is a Sanskrit word which is made up of two word “gana” and “isha”. “Gana” means a group and “isha” means lord. Lord Ganesh has an elephant head because of which he is also known as “Gajraj”. Ganesh Chaturthi is also known as Ganeshotsav. It is celebrated for ten day. In some regions it is celebrated for five, seven or nine days. During Ganesh Chaturthi large pandals are erected in which statue of Lord Ganesh is placed. These pandals are opened for the public from seventh or eighth day of this festival.
