" Gandhi Jayanti "

This upcoming October 2^nd, 2015, marks 147^th ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ or birthday of Sri. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of Founding of the Sovereign Federal Republic of India as a Nation since 1947 otherwise, known as, “Father of the Nation” in short! It’s an annual National Gazetted Holiday for the residents of India since his passing in the year 1948 after the country’s independence; and also, the International Day of Non-Violence observed worldwide by the citizens of this planet under the official recommendation by the United Nation General Assembly since 15^th of June, 2007.

In India, the day is valued one among the only three national annual holidays apart from the Indian Independence Day (15^th August) and the Republic Day (26^th January). People offer prayers to the good soul of their Mahatma during the morning, in New Delhi they visit Raj Ghat, the final resting point of his body’s ash and take a moment of silence to admire and respect the immense amount of sacrifice he went through for wellbeing of India to rise as a nation, Gandhi’s most favourite bhajan song: ‘Raghupathi Raghav Raja Ram,’ is sung in an orchestra in open space. Children are encouraged to participate in voluntary organized competitive essays, speeches and paintings on the Father of the Nation of India and on subjective topics like the World peace, values of non-violence, freedom struggles, co-operative co-existence, civil disobedience, nation building, power of sovereignty and many more… Awardees are given further skilful projects to enhance in their respective prowess! People also watch films and documentaries on Gandhi and, buy and read books written by him or on him.

Gandhi freed India from the British Raj and ascertained that freedom can be realised thru non-violence and so does the World too by paying Gandhi homage on Gandhi Jayanti!
